About the Painting from the the Artist:
"Having kids and becoming a foster parent has really heightened anxiety I feel when it comes to my children. I worry for their safety, what their futures may look like, if I’m parenting them the “right” way, etc. I also have this constant battle of wanting to hold on too tight and trying desperately to let my children make their own decisions.
For this painting I wanted to capture the feeling of “letting go” of my kids and letting them experience the world for themselves. The baby sea turtles felt like a natural fit. There are predators lurking, a big scary ocean before them and yet, the baby turtles dig themselves out of a hole and inch forward to the water to survive. Once in the ocean, sea turtles are essential to the marine ecosystems.
My only goal in parenting isn’t to get my kids “to the ocean”. My hope (and prayer) is that they grow and learn enough to not only live in the world, but improve it. After all, I think we all can make a difference in the world if we’re willing to." -Evelyn
